Alcohol and long term effects of alcohol on brain and body


Initially, the consumption of alcohol is either for fun and entertainment or for relieving stress. But the regular consumption causes some severe long term effects of alcohol on brain and body. It results in losing the ability to think in a rational manner and responsibly. Drinking alcohol for a very long time is attached with cognitive changes like poor decision making, confused drinking, abnormal drinking and loss of inhibitions.

Long term effects on the brain:

It is well-known fact that consuming alcohol will definitely lead the individuals towards mental health disorder. It works as a depressant on the central nervous part of the brain. It leads to changes in the behavior of individuals. In fact, the person will also have frequent mood swings which are very commonly seen as long term effect of alcohol. The brain shrinkage, memory loss, and learning problems are just the starting effects of consuming alcohol for a very long time. The person will surely suffer from changes in its brain structure which often results in personality, emotions and mental functions.

Other effects of alcohol:

Deficiency of Thiamine is observed in heavy drinkers which is an essential nutrient of the body and brain. Its deficiency leads to serious mental disorders like Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome.
